1) Commençons par le commencement : pouvez-vous vous présenter et revenir rapidement sur l’histoire du groupe ?

The Pitch : 1989. Je réponds à une annonce : un groupe de Lyon, (Ultime Folie, pop new Wave immature, paroles en français, genre Indochine tu vois), cherche un guitariste. Le batteur s'en va pour divergences musicales. Il reste le bassiste (Éric), le chanteur (Christophe, un chanteur cheveux en l'air qui chante comme Indochine, en pire) et moi le guitariste qui possède une boîte à rythmes. Le groupe s'oriente immédiatement vers la Cold Wave. Des compos se font très rapidement. Christophe transforme sa voix dans les graves. En six mois, un album (cassette) est prêt : Urban Line.

Un concept album (CD) sort en 1993 : Loreen. Eric nous quitte car il n'aime pas le côté noir.

Art Decade travaille avec des danseurs pour différents projets (entre autre un spectacle de 45 minutes : The Stone).

En 1996, nous sommes dépassés par le projet du nouvel album. Trop complexe, problèmes personnels, divergences de points de vue... Séparation.

2) Le groupe existe-t-il toujours, a-t-il été officiellement arrêté ou juste mis en sommeil ?

The Pitch : En fait, depuis le split en 1996, j'ai monté plusieurs groupes de Pop, (Eventide, The Referees) et j'ai enregistré plusieurs albums et fait une centaine de concerts.

Christophe, lui, a été très actif dans le milieu de la Poste dont il est un préposé zélé. (rires)

Christophe : J'ai totalement arrêté la musique. J'ai toujours espéré qu'Art Decade était un groupe en sommeil et qu'il se reformerait. Je trouvais regrettable qu'on n'ait pas pu finaliser le troisième album.

The Pitch : On se voyait régulièrement, amicalement pour boire des bières et évoquer le bon vieux temps. Le succès du myspace a été un détonateur. "Bon sang, il y a des gens qui aiment Art Decade. Ça devait être bien alors!! » Nous avons réécouté les bandes du troisième album. La qualité technique était bonne. On a donc décidé de le terminer.

3) Comment vous situez-vous dans la nébuleuse des « musiques sombres », gothique en particulier (style, influences… ) ?

Christophe : Il faut bien comprendre que notre musique a été composée il y a plus de 10 ans. On est pour le moins déconnecté de la sphère dark. Contrairement à l'époque, où nous étions fans des Pink Dots, Death in June, The Cure et l'ensemble de la scène indus et Cold Wave.

Aroma Di Amore, увы, всегда были аутсайдерами. Cвоеобразная смесь из сырых гитар, электронных ритмов, голландских и нетрадиционные мотивов была слишком далека от рок-аудитории 80-х. Однако те кто без предубеждений прислушаетя к их музыке, откроет для себя энергичный, искренний и бескомпромиссный коллектив, стоящий выше всех тенденций. Хотя известность группы подавлялась такими коллективами как Arbeid Adelt или Neon Judgment, в настоящее время они рассматриваются как одни из наиболее важных представителей той эпохи. В 2004-2005 они вновь объединились для короткого, но весьма успешного тура. В 2009 году они выпустили сборник, и собрались в новый тур.

AROMA DI AMORE have always been outsiders, even within the confinement of the alternative rockcircuit. Their peculiar blend of raw guitars, electronic rhythms, Dutch lyrics and unconventional songwriting was too far out for rock audiences in the eighties. Those however who, without prejudice, would lend an ear to the band's music, discovered an energetic, authentic and uncompromising collective that stood above all trends. Though the band’s popularity was far beneath that of similar bands as Arbeid Adelt or Neon Judgment, nowadays they are considered as one of the most important rockgroups of that era. In 2004/2005 they re-united for a short but highly successful Belgian tour. In 2009 they are about to release an overview-compilation, followed by a new tour at the end of the year.

AROMA DI AMORE ont toujours été des outsiders, même au milieu du circuit rock altrenatif. Leur mélange particulier de guitares saturées, de rythmes éléctroniques, de paroles en flamand et leur manière d'écrire non-conventionnelle allait déjà trop loin pour le public rock des 80's.
Ceux qui au delà de ça ont bien voulu prété l'oreille, sans préjugé ont découvert une énérgie authentique et un collectif intègre qui resta loin de toutes les modes. Pourtant la popularité de ce groupe était très en dessous des d'autres d'un style similaire comme Arbeid Adelt ou Neon Judgement. Aujourd'hui, ils sont considérés comme un des plus important de cette époque. Ils se sont reformé en 2004/2005 pour une tournée courte mais couronnées de succés à travers la Belgique. En 2009 ils allaient ré-éditer une compilation de l'ensemble de leur carrière, suivi par une nouvelle tournée sur la fin de l'année.

Писать электронную музыку - это одно. Преподнести ее слушателю - совсем другое. Монстры после-панк сцены Clair Obscur были одной из первых групп 80-х во Франции, связавшие музыку, изобразительное искусство, танец и театр. Christophe Demarthe aka Cocoon задался вопросом о концепции представления музыки слушателю, и предпочел использовать ноутбук. Потому что для Cocoon "презентация" невозможна без диалога. Для Cocoon без диалога невозможно ничего.

В концепции альбома лежит гораздо больше, чем просто звуковые формы, Cocoon можно считать как глобальный художественный проект. Шоу "We need a volunteer" сначала выглядит как классический концерт электронной музыки (со столом, компьютером и видео). Потом оно путем последовательных изменений - для пущей производительности, если так можно выразиться, потребует активного участия присутствующих , развеивая пассивное прослушивание с ноутбука. Этот этап и отличает выступление Cocoon от стандартных концертов электронщины, и безоговорочно позиционирует себя как точка пересечения изображений, звука и шоу движущейся трансдисциплинарности.

Writing electronic music is one thing. Presenting it in public is another thing. Renegade of the post-punk scene with his group Clair Obscur which was one of the first groups in the 80s in France which made links between music, visual arts, dance and theatre, Christophe Demarthe aka Cocoon asks (himself) the question of the presentation of music in public, and more particularly of laptop music. Because for Cocoon this presentation does not go without saying. For Cocoon nothing goes without saying.

Much more than a mere sound object based on an album concept, Cocoon can be read as a global artistic project. Cocoon's show "We need a volunteer" first looks like a classic concert of electronic music (with table, computer and video) before it becomes - through a succession of changes - a show close to a performance, asking for an active participation of the public, banishing the passive listening of laptopers. The stage disposition creates a real contrast with the characteristic immobility of electronic music concerts, and definitively places itself at the crossing point of image, sound and live show, for a moving transdisciplinarity.

 Since its creation in 2004, Cocoon has been invited to perform in various artistic events such as festival Nowa Fabryka (Bytom, Poland), festival Emergences/Villette Numérique (Paris), festival Emo-Son (Bourges), Salon des Editeurs Light (Paris), Qwartz Awards (Paris), Le Cube (Issy), festival Ososphère (Strasbourg), Le Nouveau Festival du Centre Pompidou (Paris)... (ru) растащило меня на классику жанра. как большой души человек, поделюсь. вдруг еще кому сейчас по настроению придется. но я в равной степени человек еще и ленивый, поэтому в качестве биографического экскурса приведу интервью из журнала Grave Jibes Fanzine - он ни в первый раз уже меня выручает.

"Nattsol: As I know, the band began to exist in 1984. And you joined two years later. So what was ‘Exces Nocturne’ in that period? What were the band’s origins?

Corine: It started when Rémy (guitar player) was 16, with Thierry, who played the drums. At that time, Rémy never imagined that Richard (Thierry’s younger brother) would become Excès Nocturne’s bass player…! They used to rehearse a bit everywhere, including Rémy’s Mum’s bedroom or in their living room…

4 years later, they became a more serious band: they met 2 other musicians (bass and keyboard) and they found the name… the title for a porn movie …!
Then I joined, the same day as Richard. And the keyboard left…..
And in the end, just before we released the ..12”.., Thierry left the band.

Nattsol: Now tell me, how did you join the band?

Corine: It was more like a coïncidence, in fact…
I was running a rock-bar, then, and Rémy used to come, and one day, he told me they were looking for a new male singer. I don’t know why, but it just felt like “that’s your chance, go ahead!” So I said “I know one” and when he asked who, I just said “me”.
He looked surprised but then suggested an audition. I don’t remember that he was particularly enthusiastic at the time, though …:) So I auditioned one afternoon and I was scared to death cos they played one of their new songs and asked me to improvise on it. I ended up using a sentence from one of Siouxsie’s songs and singing it for a long long time!
This song eventually became “Il disait”. And it’s one of my favourite!Nattsol: Next my question is common for bands which were/are close to coldwave. Tell me about that coldwave era. What was that actually? Do you think that it’s over?

Corine: I’m surprised to see it’s not over : bands like « No Tears » or « Guerre Froide » for example, are very successful today… and the fact that a label like Infrastition is releasing all the old stuff from bands from the 80ies… it shows there is a real interest today for what cold wave represents. Now, back then, it was different : you see, without the internet, it was difficult to feel we were part of a « French cold wave movement » : I didn’t feel there was such a movement, then… which sounds really weird, now ! I was into Bauhaus, the Cure (until Pornography) personally, and I felt I was part of a whole new sound, but nothing more, in fact. And it was hard to know if people actually listened to our music ! It’s easier today :)

Nattsol: So you weren’t in contact with other ‘coldwave’ bands in 80’s?

Corine: No, actually… we had a few friend/bands, but they split before they managed to do anything… It seemed so hard to find new friends!

Nattsol: The band broke up in 1989. What were the reasons?.

Corine: Misunderstandings, ego problems, side projects that were not so well accepted… Maybe the end of a cycle and we didn’t manage it properly… Today, I feel I wouldn’t react the way I reacted then, but you grow up, hopefully! I realised when we met again in 2006 that it was a complete misunderstanding, it felt stupid we didn’t clear it up then… we never had the opportunity to talk about it before…

Droserae the group, that was created in 2007 in Paris, ranging from Post-Punk and Gothic Rock. "Эта история берет свое начало в Перми, где родился Даня Юшков (Danya Yushkov). В начале девяностых одиннадцатилетний Даня переехал в Нью Йорк. Там он встретил Стива (Steve Kurlat), с которым, вдохновленный панк - движением, создал свою первую группу в 1997. «Это не была по-настоящему хорошая музыка, она была ужасна. Мы были просто шумящими детьми». Как-то друг Стива Юрий(Yuri Khorodzie) посетил репетицию молодой группы и решил присоединиться к ним на басу. Он совсем не умел играть, но, как это обычно бывает, в то время это не имело большого значения. Однако, несколько лет спустя развитие группы зашло в тупик, и она распалась. После распада группы Даня сильно увлекся музыкой с более мрачным и эксцентричным звучанием, а именно, творчеством таких групп как “Virgin Prunes”, “Sex Gang Children”, “Clan Of Xymox”, “The Legendary Pink Dots”, “Tom Waits”. Вдохновленный их музыкой, он искал музыкантов, чтобы реализовать свои новые идеи. Одной ночью, в то время, когда Даня переехал обратно в старый район, они собрались там с Юрием и Стивом, которые предложили ему вновь собраться вместе, несмотря на их глобальные расхождения в видении музыки. (“Они хотели рок, я ненавидел рок”). Однако, союз продержался достаточно долго. Некоторое время спустя группа, названная Valiant To Vile, записала такие песни как “Veils Of Ashes”, “All That Was Human”, “Knife” и “Carousel Days”...

..Летом 2007 года на концерт Valiant To Vile попала клавишница Кира (Kira Hosbein) и, впечатлившись услышанным, решила присоединиться к группе. Идея была принята с энтузиазмом, так как до этого студийные партии клавиш исполнял Даня. Но на концерте он не мог справиться с гитарой, вокалом и клавишами одновременно. Кира обновила клавишные партии, добавив собственные мелодии, которые не были прочувствованы всем коллективом. Вместе они закончили запись материала для альбома “Ugly Little Children”. Тем временем, напряжение в группе росло. Юрию и Стиву категорически не нравились перемены, которые происходили в группе. Они часто отвергали необычные вокальные партии, а так же, множество исходящих от Дани и Киры идей, которые отклонялись от привычного для них звучания. Разрыв был лишь вопросом времени. Вскоре группа оказалась в “замороженном” состоянии. Считая себя неспособными к дальнейшему совместному творчеству, музыканты согласились лишь давать концерты в полном составе, если их куда-либо пригласят выступать. Но совсем недавно, группа, уже без Юрия, вновь решила продолжить совместное творчество, невзирая на все различия. Стив, Даня и Кира записали новую песню под названием ”Figment of Imagination”. После нескольких секунд прослушивания этой композиции, слушатель может узнать манеру игры Стива, пожалуй, одну из самых характерных черт группы. В следующие шесть минут песня может сильно удивить. Звук стал легче и светлее, вокал Дани кажется более мелодичным…. В эти минуты группа может показаться более мэйнстримовой, нежели она есть на самом деле. Но следующая часть песни, которая начинается после нескольких секунд тишины, развеивает все сомнения. Эта часть наполнена энергий и того характерного для Valiant to Vile цинизма. Эта часть ясно показывает, что тот «свет» исходит из глубин чувств. На подобии того состояния, когда человек становится выше собственных чувств и эмоций, и обретает ясный взгляд сквозь их призму. Трудно сказать, ориентируясь лишь на одну песню, какой путь для себя избрали Valiant to Vile. В любом варианте, надеюсь, что группа не потеряет собственной индивидуальности..." (с) Nattsol

"This story began in the small Russian town called Perm where Danya Yushkov was born. In the beginning of the 90’s, 11 year old Danya moved to New York City. There he met Steve Kurlat and, inspired by the punk movement, they created their first band in 1997. «It wasn’t really good music, it was terrible. We were just kids making noise.» One time, Steve’s friend Yuri Khorodzie visited their rehearsal and decided to join them on bass. He couldn’t play at all, but as it usually is, it didn’t matter much for that period. However a few years later, the band development reached a deadlock and the band broke up.

After that, Danya had been strongly fascinated with the music of a more obscure and darker sound, including bands such as Virgin Prunes, Sex Gang Children, Legendary Pink Dots, Tom Waits, Clan Of Xymox, etc. Infused with their works, he was looking for musicians to realize his new ideas. He got together one night with Steve and Yuri, since he had moved back into their neighborhood, and they suggested to him to play together again despite the fact that they didn’t have many common views on music. «They wanted rock, I hated rock.» Aside from the differences, the union was keeping itself alive for a rather long time. Shortly after reconnecting, the band which was now called Valiant to Vile recorded the songs «Veils Of Ashes,» «All That Was Human,» «Knife,» and «Carousel Days.»

During the summer of 2007 keyboardist Kira Hosbein attended a Valiant to Vile show and, impressed by the music, decided to join them, since Danya originally recorded the keyboard parts but was unable to play them live, being busy with the guitar and vocals. Kira renewed the old keyboard lines by adding her own diverse melodies that were not previously conceived by the band. The renewed line up quickly finished recording the album Ugly Little Children. However the tension in the band was building up. Yuri and Steve absolutely didn’t like the changes the band went through. They often rejected a lot of the outlandish vocals or new ideas coming from Danya and Kira that would stray from sounds they were familiar and comfortable with. Rupture was only a question of time. Soon the band came to such frequent disagreement over this evolution that progress was stunted. They thought that since they were unable to find compromises when it came to recent joint creations, making new songs in the project would have to be put on hold. But just recently the band, now without Yuri, put aside their musical differences and decided to continue a creative process together. Steve, Danya and Kira recorded a new song, called ‘Figment of Imagination’. After a few seconds of listening to this song, a listener can recognize Steve’s manner of playing. It’s probably one of the most recognizable things in Valiant to Vile. The next six minutes of the song can really astonish. The sound became more light and clear, Danya’s vocals seem more melodic… probably in these minutes the band can be conceived as more mainstream than it actually is. But the next part of the song which begins after a few seconds of silence breaks all doubts. This part is filled with energy and that Valiant to Vile cynicism. It shows that this ‘lightness’ actually comes from the depths of feelings. Like that condition when a person is above his feelings and emotions. When they become absolutely clear…. So it’s difficult to say, according just to one song, what Valiant to Vile will be in the future. I hope it won’t loose its individuality anyway."... (c) Nattsol

Il ne savait pas jouer mais, comme c'est généralement le cas, cela n'avait pas beaucoup d'importance. Après quelques années, le groupe s'est essoufflé et finit par disparaitre.

Après quoi Danya developpa un intérêt grandissant pour des sons plus sombres, tels que ceux des groupes comme "Virgin Prunes", "Sex Gang Children", "Clan Of Xymox", "The Legendary Pink Dots", "Tom Waits". Inspiré par leur musique, il était à la recherche de musiciens pour concretiser ses idées. Une nuit, de retour à la vieille ville où ils s'étaient rencontrés, George et Steve l'ont de nouveau invité à reformer le groupe malgré leurs différences de goût musicaux. ( «Ils voulaient du rock. Je déteste le rock!»). Malgré leurs différences, la mayonnaise prit. Quelque temps plus tard, le groupe , désormais appelé Valiant To Vile, enregistra des morceaux telles que "Veils Of Ashes", «All That Was Human,» «Knife,» and «Carousel Days». 

Durant l'été 2007 la claviériste Kira Hosbein assista à un de leur concert et fût impressionnée par leur prestation et décida de rejoindre le groupe. L'idée fût acceptée car Danya ,qui avait composé et enregistré les parties de claviers, ne pouvait pas les jouer sur scène, déjà occuppé par la guitare et le chant. Keira renouvela les lignes de synthé en y ajoutant de nouvelles mélodies, ce qui n'étaient pas du gout de tout le monde.

Ensemble, ils achevèrent l'enregistrement de l'album "Ugly Little Children". Pendant ce temps, la tension dans le groupe s'était développé. Yuri et Steve catégoriquement n'aimaient pas les changements survenus dans la bande. Ils rejetaient souvent les manières de chanter inhabituelles ou les nombreuses idées émanant de Dani et Kira, qui s'écartaient des sentiers battus. La rupture était seulement une question de temps. Bientôt, le groupe se trouvait dans un état "gelé". Se considérant comme incapables de nouveaux projets en commun, les musiciens acceptèrent seulement de donner des concerts de leur vieux répertoire si ils étaient invités à jouer.

Mais récemment, le groupe sans Yuri, a encore une fois décidé de reprendre le processus créatif, malgré toutes les différences d'opinions et de goût. Steve, Daniel et Cyrus ont enregistré une nouvelle chanson intitulée "Figment of Imagination". Après quelques secondes d'écoute de cette chanson, l'auditeur peut reconnaitre la manière de jouer de Steve, peut-être, l'un des traits les plus caractéristiques du groupe. Durant les six minutes suivantes, le morceau peut être très surprenant. Le son est devenu plus léger et plus clair, le chant de chant Dani semble plus mélodiques .... Dans ces moments, Valiant To Vile semble plus commercial qu'il ne l'est réellement. Mais la partie suivante, qui commence après quelques secondes de silence, dissipe tous les doutes. Cette partie est pleine d'énergie et d'un cynisme caractéristique au groupe. Ce passage montre clairement que la «lumière» jaillit à travers leur prisme des tréfonds obscures de l'âme. Comme l'état de stase d'un être qui surpasse ses sentiments et émotions. Difficile à dire, en se concentrant sur une seule chanson, ce qu'il adviendra de Valiant To Vile. Группа, представляющая собой дуэт Дани (гитара, бас, ударные, вокал) и Киры (клавиши, ударные, вокал), достаточно быстро записала 12 песен для своего будущего альбома, пока не имеющего названия и дала некоторое количество концертов. Трудно дать стилевую характеристику этому проекту. Единственное, что можно сказать с уверенностью, что музыка, по сравнению с Valiant To Vile стала более экспериментальной. Их песни могут сочетать в себе множество стилей, как все вместе, так и поочередно. Достаточно типичный дезрок может внезапно “покрываться” нойзовым звуковым полотном, и после этого вновь “выплывать” из него. (en) here they are, the monsters León scene. on first listening very impressed to me. possible recording quality does not best, but this hardly affects the overall picture. very interesting, dynamic, and, importantly, not monotonous. delightful sounds of violins and keys. I strongly advise.

Bohémien returned on the stage in 2002 when Alex Buccini (voice), Luciano Liberatore (guitar) and Walter Vincenti (drums), three of the members of the original line up, decided to relive the band that originally existed between 1985 and 1987, recruiting in the project Giovanni Staccone (bass guitar) and Stefania Minutaglio (keyboards), later replaced by Gian Paolo Cesarini (2009), Alessandra Romeo (2006-2009) and Riccardo Magni (2009)
1985-1987
Having formed the band in 1985, they publish the demotape “Sangue e Arena” in december of the same year. After their live debut at the Piper, historical club in the center of Roma, they play numerous gigs all around Italy and disband in 1987.
2002-
15 years later, in 2002, Bohémién get back together keeping intact the roots of their deathrock/gothic sound characterized by its italian lyrics. After some gigs, in 2003, they publish the CD “Danze Pagane” (ITNT). Later the song “Eclissi (dell’ anima)” is included in the compilation “Pagan Love Songs” (Alice In/Dark Dimensions). In october 2005 they publish the EP “La Parata del Circo” (ITNT) and play in New York City two gigs during the third edition of the Drop Dead Festival. In september 2006, six months after Walter’s tragic death, they appear again at DDF IV In NYC and at Die Wunderkur Festival in Bologna. In 2007 they are co-headliner at Bats Over Milan Festival, while in 2008 are headliner at Gothic Pogo Festival of Leipzig and in 2009 play with UK Decay at VIII Road to Ruins Punk Rock Festival of Rome. At moment, in 2010, Bohémien are recording their new album ...
